I’m starting a new series. My Mars is in Gemini so I need to keep things fresh; mix it up a bit from time to time. I’ll still be posting Tarot Daily Words of Wisdom on occasion, but Tarot at Random is something that I want to post on a more regular basis. If you follow my blog you may have figured out by now that I am not the most consistent blogger. I feel that Tarot at Random will help me to become more consistent since I now have an email subscription for the Word of the Day. So basically Tarot at Random will consist of one card that will describe Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Day. Since every aspect of life has a corresponding Tarot card this will be very interesting and fun! The first word is:
: any of various elastic textile fibers made chiefly of polyurethane; also : clothing made of this material
Tarot Card: 2 of Pentacles
See how the cord around the two pentacles appears to stretch? It can be likened to a rubber band. This card is about being pliable, flexible and accommodating. The suit of Pentacles deals with the material and spandex is indeed a kind of material.
Did you know?
It’s not a trademark, as a number of the names of other fibers are, among them “Dacron,” “Lycra,” and “Orlon.” It’s a generic term, coined in 1959 as an anagram of the word “expands.” Anagrammatic coinages are not common; the only other in our dictionaries that the average person is likely to be familiar with is “sideburns.” “Sideburns” is an anagram (and synonym) of “burnsides,” from Ambrose E. Burnside, a Union general in the American Civil War credited with originating the fashion (in the U.S., at least) also known as “side-whiskers.”
