Afrika Bambaataa’s Natal Chart – Does He Have What It Takes?

afrika-bambaataa

Afrika Bambaataa, one of the pioneers of hip hop is currently facing allegations of child molestation that allegedly occurred during his hey day back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Ronald Savage among others, has alleged that Bambaataa sexually molested him when he was a young teen. As a result of this scandal that has plagued the hip hop community, but even more so Afrika Bambaataa’s Zulu Nation, I am going to analyze his natal chart to see if there are any indications or tendencies that would corroborate the accounts of his alleged victims.

Note: I do not know his time of birth and it has not been verified despite the claims by some that he is a Sagittarius rising. As a result, I will only discuss his planetary aspects and forgo discussing the house positions or Ascendant.

Afrika Bambaataa was born on April 17, 1957 which would make him an Aries with a strong organizational mindset since the number 17 breaks down to 8 and the number 8 deals with business and materialism in general. 8 is the number of Saturn and with it comes heavy karma. It’s interesting to note that Afrika Bambaataa is experiencing his 2nd Saturn Return. Saturn Returns occur approximately every 29 years and they usually herald very challenging circumstances. Saturn Returns in a spiritual sense can result in having to pay down some karmic debt. This is exactly what is happening with Bambaataa right now during his Saturn Return. When people are ill-prepared for their Saturn Return period, it is often a very humbling experience. Saturn also deals with reputation and when Saturn returns to its natal position, one’s reputation may be in jeopardy. Recently, Bambaataa issued this official statement in response to the allegations made against him:

I, Afrika Bambaataa, want to take this opportunity at the advice of my legal counsel to personally deny any and all allegations of any type of sexual molestation of anyone,” Bambaataa says in a statement to Rolling Stone. “These allegations are baseless and are a cowardly attempt to tarnish my reputation and legacy in hip-hop at this time. This negligent attack on my character will not stop me from continuing my battle and standing up against the violence in our communities, the violence in the nation and the violence worldwide.

The number 17 is softer than the single number 8, but the energy of Saturn is still present. With 17, one may be very artistic, fond of music, dance, filmmaking, pageantry, etc and create a livelihood out of it. However 17, mainly because of the number 7 can also deal with having a secret life or deceptive tendencies. It is easy to put up a charade. Usually, 17 is never totally upfront about his true intentions. There may be a hidden agenda or ulterior motives at work.

Now, looking into Afrika Bambaataa’s chart there are some indicators that point to the tendency for sexual predation. Some of the main indicators are challenging aspects between his Sun, Moon, Venus, Saturn, and Neptune. With the Sun being joined to Venus in Aries, Bambaataa has a natural affinity for music and entertainment, but also males since Aries is the most virile and masculine of the signs. Aries also deals with youth, thus he has a natural affinity or even attraction for young men. There have been rumors circulating within the hip hop community for years regarding Bambaataa’s homosexuality.  Sun in conjunction to Venus also deals with his flamboyant identity (think about his Soul Sonic Force days where he wore elaborate costumes and tights) and his penchant for unity. The whole “Peace, Unity, Love, and Having Fun” song was a testament to this. However, Venus in Aries is more about self-love than true love for others. With this Venus-Sun combo, Bambaataa was able to gain a lot of praise, adoration, and devotees throughout his rise to fame.

Now, this Venus/Sun conjunction is in pretty bad shape. This coupling is plagued by a hard aspect from the planet Neptune. Neptune is in opposition to his Sun and Venus which points to a very secretive or even deceptive nature. It is akin to living a lie. There’s much about Bambaataa’s life that he tries to keep hidden; Neptune being the planet of lies, deception and that which is kept under wraps. Neptune is in Scorpio, the sign of taboo activity and sexual bonds. Basically, this aspect enabled Afrika Bambaataa to lure boys into his circle by his message of Love, Peace, Unity, etc. With Neptune, he basically provided asylum for these youths, but at the same time it was a trap and they became easy prey.

The Sun and Venus are also in challenging aspect to his Moon and Saturn in Sagittarius. There’s a sesquisquare between these two cosmic couples and this can point to Bambaataa’s godfather or mentor/role model position and his ability to funnel boys into his organization for his own personal benefit. Saturn in conjunction to the Moon can make one very opportunistic as a result of a fear-based mindset. On a benign level Saturn joined with the Moon can point to one who lacked a childhood, proper nurturing, and possibly a mother’s love during the formative years. It can also point to strife within the home and having to take on the role of a parent as a child. As a result of Bambaataa’s difficult upbringing, he tries to create his own ideal family circle and legacy, hence the Zulu Nation, but with the challenge from the Sun and Venus in Aries, this family/legacy is dysfunctional and it echoes the kind of family dynamic that could be prone to incest. Often with Sun conjunct Venus, the native does not see others as distinct individuals–they are mere extensions of himself. When a person lacks the ability to respect others as individuals, it is very easy to impede upon their rights.

Afrika Bambaataa’s Sun and Venus are in square to Uranus and this can point to an alternative lifestyle, being eccentric or being ultra-progressive. On the negative end it can result in tendencies toward perversion and deviant behavior. This aspect points to his activist bent and the forming of the Zulu Nation, but since it’s a square, his intentions are not totally pure.

Bambaataa’s Moon/Saturn combo is in challenging aspect to Neptune. As I stated previously, Neptune is about lies and deception, but it is also about victimization. Bambaataa’s opportunistic personality and his status as a father-figure/mentor could result in the victimization of others through sex (Neptune in Scorpio). His Moon and Saturn are in Sagittarius and Sag deals with his international acclaim, his philosophy, belief system and god-like status. Saturn with the Moon can also cause him to lack the ability to relate to others on a personal level. He may actually believe he is a god in the flesh and this would give him justification to commit the grievous acts against those who put their trust and faith in him if these allegations are true. He is viewed as some sort of savior, but with this aspect he’s more of a cult leader.

The Zulu Nation founder has a hard aspect between Moon/Saturn and Mars. It’s an opposition in fact so this deals with an external struggle that is inherent within his life. This external struggle can point to him taking advantage of his mentorship/godfather position in the form of preying upon young men. Mars is in Gemini and Gemini deals with youth. Mars deals with males. Gemini can deal with being two-faced or having a second agenda. Due to issues regarding his father (as evident with challenging aspects to the Sun and Saturn, plus Saturn retrograde), Bambaataa has a need to feed on male energy to overcompensate for his lack of a male role model. Perhaps, Bambaataa’s own father had homosexual tendencies and struggled with his manhood. With Mars opposition Saturn alone, most likely his father was not around or was incapable of teaching him how to be a man. This combination between the Moon, Saturn and Mars can also cause him to not be able to respond to women sexually. This aspect can possibly point to Bambaataa being sexually abused or molested by a woman or mother figure in his early life. This could have turned him off from women and caused him to become very untrusting of them. Afrika definitely has serious issues with women and as a result he seeks love from men.

A few more indicators are present in Bambaataa’s chart–namely a semisquare between Mars and Uranus. This challenging aspect can deal with deviant sexual tendencies and perverse desires. It also deals with craving absolute power over those who join his organization. Now, the semisquare is very patient in meting out karma so it could take many years before one’s transgressions are exposed when done under this aspect.

He has a square between Mercury in Taurus and Chiron in Aquarius. This is a tight square that can deal with having a reprobate mind. A person with this aspect doesn’t feel that the rules should apply to them. They want to be the exception to the rule. With Chiron being in Aquarius, it gives him cult-leader tendencies as well as the tendency for perverse thoughts when in challenging aspect to Mercury. Mercury in Taurus makes him very much interested in music, but also beauty and sensuality. Taurus is also about values. When in square to Chiron, he may not be upholding the same values that he espouses.

Bambaataa has Mars square Jupiter which could make him very hypocritical, shady, and calculating. This aspect also causes one to be prone to excess, to not look before they leap, and to be sort of like a pied-piper–preying upon youth. Mars square Jupiter can also deal with rumors and gossip being spread about him, legal charges brought up against him, bribery, and even blackmail.

In terms of key asteroids, he has a contra-parallel between Hebe and Venus. This can point to an inappropriate relationship with young males since Hebe deals with youth. Negative aspects between Hebe and Venus or Mars for that matter, can indicate the propensity for pedophilia and child molestation.

Finally, I looked into Afrika Bambaataa’s spiritual evolution profile which can be gleaned from the examination of the Moon’s Nodes. Bambaataa’s South Node is in Taurus which puts his North Node in Scorpio. As a result, Bambaataa is an extremely sensual person who is prone to hyper-indulgence since the Nodes are at 21 degrees. In past lives, Bambaataa may have been indulgent, but he toed the line, he lived according to the values of society and he upheld the status quo. In this current incarnation, Afrika Bambaataa is called to live a more dynamic, transformative, and deeply meaningful existence through the North Node in Scorpio. He is to collaborate with others, create synergy and live life more on the edge. In the course of trying to evolve spiritually, Bambaataa has gone to the extreme left. He does embody a lot of the positive traits of the Scorpio Node, however, he has also adopted some of the most negative traits of Scorpio which is engaging in taboo/criminal behavior, being manipulative, cunning, obsessive/compulsive, and hyper-sexual. His Mars in Gemini forms a challenging aspect (quincunx) to his North Node–his sexual drives prevent him from evolving in the appropriate manner.

In conclusion, Afrika Bambaataa certainly has what it takes with respect to the allegations of child molestation. The thing is, Bambaataa has been given some protection via the planet Pluto (Venus/Sun trine Pluto, Neptune sextile Pluto) and this has enabled him to operate under the radar for many years. However, with this Saturn Return that he is experiencing, the indomitable power of Pluto can’t even shield him from the shit storm that has darkened his doorstep. After analyzing his natal, I believe these allegations are true.

Saturn in Sagittarius has a way of dethroning kings because it cares not about false pretenses; Saturn in Sagittarius is about truth reigning supreme–especially with respect to organizations and systems. Afrika Bambaataa’s god-like status is no more. That’s the power of Saturn in Sag. Transiting Saturn will land on his natal Saturn again on May 24th so he’s still in the thick of it. More details or allegations may come out around that time.

Kanye Keeps the Krazy Coming

Kanye

After reading some of the latest tweets of the one and only Kanye West, aka Yeezy, I was inspired to analyze his natal chart. Firstly, Kanye West’s birth date alone provides a gateway into his crazy world. Born when the Sun was skipping through Gemini and  on the 8th day, Kanye can’t help but to speak his frenetic mind in an attempt to further his ambitions. 8 is the number of Saturn according to Chaldean numerology. People born on the 8th are often extremely ambitious, business-oriented, and drawn to high positions in life. With Kanye being a Gemini, the energy of the number 8 is channeled into a variety of pursuits from music production to fashion design. 8 people have a tremendous ability to attract large sums of money via industry or government. Career is everything to 8 people and they are willing to work hard to get to the top of their field. Kanye is no exception. However, the number 8 is one of destiny and with it comes a heavy dose of karma that cannot be escaped in the present incarnation. 8 can bring one to tremendous heights in terms of status and wealth, but when the wheel turns downward, there’s not much that can be done to mitigate the destined misfortune. Kanye West may certainly be experiencing the downside of his destiny at the moment. Here are some of his recent tweets:

I write this to you my brothers while still 53 million dollars in personal debt… Please pray we overcome… This is my true heart…

The Hamster Wheel of Fortune: Fluorescent lights, Extreme AC, Germ-ridden co-workers and other not-so minor inconveniences in the workplace.

wage slave

If you’ve been following my blog since the very beginning you will know by now that I absolutely despise being employed. My aspiration of being a full-time entrepreneur has still have yet to be fulfilled, despite the fact that my business has been operating consistently for the past 7 years. I’m not quite at the point where I can quit my job forever. Oh how I wish I could right now so that I would not be assaulted by glaring florescent lights or put up with the new co-worker who keeps hacking and sneezing in the corner. New co-worker also smells like wet dog. I know I’m not imagining it. Did I mention that it’s often freezing cold like the Arctic Circle up in here? I know these are minor inconveniences to some, but they add up and they begin to take a toll upon my mental health and emotional well-being. I feel fragmented and stagnant being employed for long stretches of time: I don’t feel whole. I feel closed in when I have to share a small office (about twice the size of a janitor’s closet) with more than 1 person—especially when the 3rd person is playing host to common cold germs.

Then there’s the issue of being severely underpaid. If I didn’t have my business income to supplement my slave wages, I would be barely making it despite having a master’s degree. As it stands, my hourly rate for my business is $60. To figure out how much I make at my current place of employment, just take $60 and divide by 4. This is exactly why I am writing this blog during my hours of employment. I don’t get paid enough to be a total obedient slave. Where’s the incentive to be a do-gooder paper pusher?

A few months ago I got the insane notion that I could leave 1 hour early on some days if I didn’t take my hour lunch break. To me it makes sense because I am not paid for that hour and I was told that the hour break could be taken at any time. My shift was 10 to 6 and some days I would leave at 5 because I would not take a lunch. Well, one drone caught wind of what I was doing and snitched to management. Now I have to take the hour break regardless of whether I need it. Nonsensical rules like this make me feel that I am not being treated as an adult, but hey if you want that paycheck… I’m dealing with it. Compared to being underpaid, this is only a small gripe.

You see my whole goal was to make my current place of employment, my final place of employment, but it’s getting to the point now where I’d rather have some form of change than no change at all.

mftwheeloffortune

I pulled a Tarot card with the question: Should I look for a better plantation or should I just stick it out at my current job? I got the Wheel of Fortune which is a card that signifies change—change that is usually for the better. I currently work for a small college and the Wheel of Fortune is ascribed to the planet Jupiter, the ruler of colleges and universities. The time is ripe in fact, for me to transition into a new position with another school since the Sun is transiting my 9th house (higher education falls under the 9th house) and Venus has just entered my 8th (the 8th house deals with managing other people’s finances and I am a financial aid coordinator at my present job). As much as I hate going through the hiring process, it will be worth it if I can find a job with better pay. I’m giving myself a week to get some interviews since I’m in a bit of a time crunch. I get paid only once a month at my present job so the best time to leave is right after payday which just happens to be tomorrow.

The older I get the less I am willing to settle. I’ve settled for too long at this current job already. I will have been employed with the company for 2 years this coming March. The longest job I’ve had only lasted exactly 3 years which ought to tell you something. However, while I’m at a particular job I do my work to the best of my ability. A slacker, I am not. It’s my employer that’s the slacker—paying me well below what I deserve for both my experience and education. It’s time to cut the freeloaders off. Game over.

Disclaimer on the Law of Karma

Karma pic

Yesterday I posted an article on the subject of Karma written by Stuart Wilde. Basically, he broke down the time frames of Karma starting with Instant Karma and ending with Long-term Karma. I am piggy-backing off of this article to interject a bit of a disclaimer.

Understanding the Law of Karma and even reincarnation for that matter still leaves some questions unanswered. I’ll give you two:

If karma is real why does it seem that people who lean on the side of good have more instant karma than people who lean on the side of evil?

If karma is a form of Divine Justice why has evil been able to dominate the world and why are evil doers handsomely rewarded through riches and power?

These questions used to plague my mind even with having full knowledge and understanding of the Law of Karma, which is essentially the Law of Cause and Effect. One only has to take a cursory look at history to see that evil has prevailed for thousands of years. One has to only go as far as their family or their surrounding area to see how generally good people often get hit with the hardest karma. Also, what about countries and regions? Do certain areas have better karma than others? Does the United States for instance have better karma than say, Haiti? Surely the U.S. has as much blood on its flag as Haiti—even more so. Does karma apply to corporations as well? Does Apple have better karma than Microsoft? Does Target have better karma than Wal-Mart? Is there a special place in hell for greedy CEOs? Is there a particular part of purgatory for corrupt politicians? Why does it seem that evil and corruption can continue unhindered if the Law of Karma is so much in effect?

My answer to these questions is that some people and systems are exempted from the Law of Karma. These people operate outside of the Law of Karma—that is the karma that they incur in their present incarnation. However, I believe that these people who are currently exempt will have to deal with karma, the Big K once they die. I believe that the Universe will allow those people who deem themselves exempt to rack up a large karmic debt that will have to be paid in future incarnations. It is like karma on credit—no payments ‘til you die! I personally would rather pay off my karma as I incur it in this lifetime than be facing a mountain of karmic debt once I cross over. So how do these people sign up for the karmic exemption? It is quite simple. They do not have much of a conscience or they lack a conscience entirely. This describes your average psychopath and this is how psychopaths can get away with murder—literally in some cases. It is our conscience that creates the phenomenon of Instant Karma in my opinion. The thief who gets caught is usually the thief with a conscience. His subconscious wills himself to set himself up to get caught so that his karma can go into effect. Maybe the thief will learn, maybe he will not, but by being charged with a crime and suffering through the resulting punishment he is in fact accepting the Law of Karma, albeit subconsciously. Most petty thieves do have consciences and this is why they make up the majority of prisoners.  The bigger, usually white-collar corporate/banker thieves don’t have much of a conscience—at least when it comes to the public at large.  They are able to exist inside of an institutional karma-free bubble that legitimizes and even rewards unfettered greed. The Law of Karma does not apply here. Nor does it apply to governments. They are insulated from Instant Karma as well. I am convinced that the more self-aware one is and the more conscientious they are the quicker their karma will be. It is a cycle that you choose to participate in. You can try to opt out and pay later. However, the subconscious is not easily fooled so if you think you can switch from being a well-intentioned individual to one who operates through evil intent in order to escape Instant Karma you are in for a rude awakening. Once you have chosen a side, you are usually stuck.

Now I must bring astrology into the discussion and I believe that this will help to clarify the subject of karma even more. In astrology, the planet Saturn represents the Law of Karma among other things. Saturn also deals with the material realm. It deals with reality—what is solid and concrete. Saturn also deals with governments and big corporations. Saturn deals with both punishment and reward on a material plane so it does in fact represent the meting out of karma—whether it is good or bad. Now Saturn is the ruler of this world, the Earthly realm and as I just stated previously, Saturn deals with reality. But…as a lot of enlightened individuals are aware, we have the power to create our own reality. Those at the top who are bent on doing evil are well aware of this esoteric truth too and since they celebrate Saturn (aka Satan) and uphold its materialistic tenets, Saturn in turn becomes an ally to them. They work with Saturn’s carnal flow rather than against it. They are in bed with Saturn/Satan and thus they create their own reality that is not subject to the law of their own bedeviled bedfellow. Thus, this world becomes theirs to behold and we become mere subjects of Saturn/Satan and his minions (The Holy Bible touches on this theme a great deal). This is why Satanists believe that they should be able to do whatever they want—including preying upon the weak. Saturn does not have a heart (think the Tin Man from The Wizard of OZ. He represents Jupiter corrupted by Saturn who is represented by the Wicked Witch of the East. Jupiter is a goodwill, benefic planet that represents the Godly force. A similar theme can be found in 2001: A Space Odyssey with the monolith representing Saturn). There is no compassionate soft side to Saturn. Saturn is the punisher, the taskmaster, the materialist and opportunist. Saturn is about death, desolation and degradation. Even at its highest manifestation which includes respect, recognition and honor, Saturn is still a staunch materialist. It has no time (Saturn also rules time) for spiritual concerns or love for humanity. It is because this world is largely influenced by Saturn that those at the top can continue to do evil without karmic retribution. However, once they leave this Earthly/Saturnalia realm, I truly believe that Saturn will turn his back on them and become their punisher instead of material savior.

So to reiterate, the more of a conscience you have the more you will be punished by Instant Karma when doing wrong. The less conscience one has the more debt they will have to pay back in the next lifetime. Sometimes I have to remind myself—especially when I am full of despair or plagued with confusion—that this Earth is the realm of Saturn and that we are subject to its Laws. Once I remember this element of Universal Law everything makes sense. Unfortunately, God is not in control, for God endows us with Free Will. Saturn is the one in control. Always remember that.

The Power of Doubt

Through a multitude of personal experience I have learned that doubt is one of our worst enemies. Doubt is so dangerous because it is so subtle, so silent. It creeps up without the slightest provocation and it can seep into every nook and cranny of your psyche. Doubt is a dark, gray, shadowy goon which threatens to block the Universal flow from manifesting its magic. Doubt knows nothing about visions, dreams, faith, and aspirations. That is the stuff of Jupiter. Doubt is spun from the rings of Saturn and it hangs low like a funky mist over a bog. Saturn presents the cold hard reality and doubt is the steel trap door that keeps you within. On the other side of the door is the Garden of Eden where hope springs eternal. Some of us are born into Saturn’s dungeon while others seek it of their own volition. Some fight hard to keep Saturn at bay. Some let it beat them into the ground. Saturn, the great tester promotes doubt because he has rulership over the material world, the tangible, the practical. In terms of that which we cannot see, our first reaction beyond the age of 7  is to engage doubt. No wonder why we are of so little faith. The ball will always be in Saturn’s court so long as we maintain the general consensus that the seen is greater than the unseen. The material world is just illusory and ever changing anyway. In the process of change there can be no room for doubt for doubt will collapse the wave into an indiscernible particle. That is what happens every time we invite doubt into our stream of consciousness. We collapse the wave before reaching our desired destination. In the process we create delays, limitations, setbacks and roadblocks. We give our power over to Satan, uh Saturn. But like a vampire, doubt only has power if you invite it in.

Faith in the Universal flux brings us a step closer while doubt takes us two steps back. It’s the ultimate fight between Jupiter and Saturn. Saturn is in fact death. Jupiter is eternal life. I believe this is the essence of 2001: A Space Odyssey (at least Kubrick’s film adaptation of Arthur C. Clark’s classic). The black monolith as the antagonizing force represented Saturn. The monolith (i.e. Saturn, Satan, Death and Destruction) is what makes us old and decrepit. It causes us to doubt our own immortality. Saturn crystallizes our sense of being material so that we may forget our spiritual source. Jupiter represents the God Force, hence the colorful spacescape sequence on the mission to the benefic planet in the film. Jupiter is also hope, faith, love, opportunity, spirit and transcendence.

We cannot continue to succumb to the power of the death cult; the cult of Saturnalia. So say as Jesus was ascribed to say “Get thee behind me Satan”, but interchange Satan with Saturn, better yet just say “Get thee behind me Doubt” and get ready to behold the power of faith.
